West Park, University of Exeter
CarneySweeney secured outline and reserved matters planning permission at West Park for the demolition of approximately 20 buildings at the main University of Exeter campus, and the erection of over 2,000 student bedrooms across a series of purpose built student accomodation (PBSA). The PBSA range from 4 to 9 storeys in height and are constructed to Passivhaus standards; potentially the largest single Passivhaus application in the world.

Key issues at the outline stage involved setting height parameters for each of the buildings, and detailed design at the Reserved Matters Stage. The applications involved significant public consultation, three Design Review Panel meetings, member briefing and Council committee meetings.

CarneySweeney is working with the University and its development partner University Partnerships Programme (UPP) to deliver the scheme.
