New Bermondsey, London

Paula Carney has been instructed by Renewal since 2004 to seek to deliver a significant mixed-use development on an underused industrial site surrounding Millwall Football Club in the London Borough of Lewisham.  We have worked to successfully release the land from its Strategic Employment Land designation and secure its allocation as a strategic site for mixed use development.

Following the receipt of an initial outline planning permission in 2012, we are very pleased to announce that in January 2022 Lewisham Council unanimously resolved to grant a new outline planning permission for 'New Bermondsey' together with the details of  Phase 1. The scheme will deliver 3,500 new homes, including 35% affordable, in buildings between 13 and 44 storeys, as well as new jobs and public spaces. It will also enable the delivery of a new London Overground station by TfL.

We are delighted to continue to work with Renewal on the delivery of this exciting masterplan by Studio Egret West which will transform this area of London.

''Paula has been a key advisor on the New Bermondsey development since 2004 and has guided us through two major planning applications with pragmatic and sound judgement, always being the voice of reason. Her unsurpassed knowledge of the London planning landscape and policy, allied to her vast experience of the many consultants operating in the myriad of disciplines required, has stood us in excellent stead over the years. The wider CarneySweeney team offer in depth knowledge and experience across a variety of issues which is exemplary.” Jordana Malik, Renewal
