CarneySweeney appeared as expert planning witness at appeal on behalf of the Anoopam Mission Spiritual Cultural Community, in support of proposals for the UK's first specialist Hindu faith-based crematorium in Denham, Buckinghamshire.

Located in the Green Belt, the team led by Peter Goatley KC and Sioned Davies compiled the case for the development, with Carney Sweeney providing planning evidence, a Green Belt Assessment and assessment of alternative sites.

The Planning Inspector acknowledged that Very Special Circumstances had been successfully demonstrated to justify building on Green Belt land, and positively determined the appeal. In particular, he noted that the Hindu community in North and West London and the surrounding counties, were disadvantaged by being denied the opportunity to observe cultural traditions in deciding in favour of the proposal.
